Lake Champlain shares the border with Vermont, running north and south. At 125 miles long, this lake sure fits it's given title as being the Adirondack's Great Lake. The water is surrounded by hills, trees, and mountains. For most paddlers, it would probably be best to stick close to the shoreline to avoid boat traffic and choppy water conditions. Best also to avoid during windy weather. This particular route remains in one of Champlain's largest bays, Willsboro Bay. This may be a preferred location for paddlers due to the separation it has from the lake's larger body. If one decides to loop the perimeter of this bay, an open water crossing is required at the bay's opening to the north.
