This paddling adventure offers a nice paddle with a smooth, small current and good scenery, touted as one of the prettiest trips in Rhode Island. The shores of the river are lined with maple, ash, oak and birch. The Pawtuxet River is know for its good fishing; there are a variety of fish species, but the river is stocked with trout several times a year.

Ninigret Pond is Rhode Islands largest coastal pond and although parts of the shore are moderately developed it offers a great paddling experience. You can expect to see a variety of different waterfowl and marsh birds, a dune barrier beach and lots of different flora, including some rare plants. Some of the vegetation that you may see include bayberry, beach plum, shadbush, dogwood, seaside goldenrod and cedar. Be apprised that although this is rated as easy there can sometimes be strong winds and tidal currents that will make this paddle a bit more difficult.

Belleville Pond has one of the best inland marsh habitats in the whole state of Rhode Island. The water is shallow which is great for fishing and a lot of biological diversity. Flora that you may see on this paddle include cattail, red maple, oak, aspen, birch bulrush, pickerelweed, waterlily, duckweed and bladderwort. The habitat is also excellent for a variety of waterfowl including Canada goose, American coot, green-winged teal, wood duck, mallard and black duck. Other wildlife and fish you may encounter include painted turtles, perch, pickerel, bass and deer.

Wallum Lakeis a 322-acre lake with the northern half in Douglas, MA and the southern half in Burrillville, RI. The water is beautiful and crystal clear as there is very little aquatic vegetation. The western shore is undeveloped while the eastern shore is lined with summer cottages and year-round homes. The western shore is part of Douglas State Forest and stunning forest covered hills provide great views from the water. Fishing, boating, and swimming are all popular at this picturesque lake. There are two paved boat ramps, one at the north end off Wallum Lake Road in Douglas and the other at the southern end in Burrillville.

This paddling adventure features views of the forest and Great Swamp area as well as Worden Pond. There is a great spot for lunch at Stony Point in Worden Pond. Wildlife that you may see include deer, fox, coyotes, raccoon, osprey and turtles. Be apprised that there is a good amount of poison ivy on this trip. The poison ivy becomes almost unavoidable especially after Worden Pond, so make sure to wear gloves, a long sleeve shirt and long pants. If you would like you can just take out after Worden Pond to avoid all of this.

This sea kayaking adventure through Narragansett Bay offers a fun paddle that features a few different islands. Some of the islands featured include Hog, Prudence, Shell and Patience Islands. You will skirt by sand and rock beaches, rocky cliffs, plenty of vegetation as well as paddle through coves and inlets. Patience Island is a great place to stop and have lunch, and do some exploring. Norton Reservoir is a 530-acre reservoir located in the towns of both Norton and Mansfield. It is a shallow lake that features many coves and a series of small islands. This is an ideal setting for paddling because of the tranquility that the reservoir provides and the great fishing, swimming, and bird-watching. The shorelines are partially developed with residential homes and commercial buildings but they also have a beautiful display of trees and forest that make a great view. Norton Reservoir also offers kayak rentals and guided kayak tours by the Norton Kayak Company. Public access is very limited but there is access for canoes and car top boats available on the eastern side of the lake in a residential area. It is at the end of Juniper Road which branches off of Reservoir Road.
