The first part of this run is a relaxing paddle on slow-moving water with only some small riffles to navigate, but the second half is where the excitement starts as the river travels down a steep gorge. After about 5.5 miles have passed, portaging on the right around multiple falls will be required. Additional falls, drops, and dams continue downstream, some of which may or may not be runnable depending on water levels so scouting beforehand is crucial. There are also strainers in the last mile to watch out for. The entire 11-mile run should only be attempted by expert paddlers but beginner paddlers can take out at Rte. 519 to avoid the challenging part of the river.

Beginning at Sunbury, this section of the Susquehanna River continues until Clemson Island. There is a portage near the beginning of the route. This section of the river is often more than a mile wide, with thousands of islands and islets, more and another other river is possibly the whole nation. There is a small section of whitewater ledges along this route, known as McKees Half Falls.

This section of Loyalsock Creek is the premier whitewater section and runs from US 220 to Forksville. The most famous rapids are the Haystacks, a Class IV rapid that are very technical consisting of large boulders where the creek swirls and drops a couple of feet. It is located about 2-3 miles downstream from the 220 bridge and if desired, there is a put in after the rapids. There is another Class IV rapid a few miles downstream, but most rapids are II-III+, with the creek almost always dropping and not providing many resting places. The creek can be run from Mar - Oct, but the best times are during the spring snowmelt or after heavy rainfall. Nearing the take out at Worlds End State Park is an amazing "S" shaped gorge about 800 feet deep.

Raymondskill Creek is for expert paddlers only. It's a challenging course that offers waterfalls, slides, and heavy whitewater. One noteworthy section is called, "Flirting With Disaster" which is marked as a portage on this route due to its large falls and low water level at the bottom. Be sure to study this entire course in more detail and scope out each questionable section before attempting. Check water levels before traveling to the creek as it can vary depending on season. Be attentive to restricted parking areas at both take-out and put-in locations. Both locations also require a short carry (one quarter mile and another half mile) along poorly defined routes and may require some self-navigation or maneuvering to find a put-in and take-out spot that suits. This water route ends just before Raymondskill Falls.

Beginning below Forkston, the route follows the Mehoopany Creek to the city of Mehoopany where it joins the Susquehanna River. The Mehoopany has Class II and III rapids, with a section of long wave after wave rapids. There are a few holes that are not technical. The scenery is gorgeous with cliffs frequently lining the right shores with small cascading side streams and then running through a valley withbroad mountains and is mostly undeveloped. Strainers are a possibility, though they rarely cross the entire creek and there is no significant braiding as the main channel is usually obvious. Running this creek considered one of the best in the region. The most convenient spot for taking out is at a private access site located on the Susquehanna right before the Highway 87 bridge.

This portion of the Delaware River is fast flowing and sports a section with rapids that, depending on conditions, can range from class II and up. This section of rapids is called Skinner's Falls. If canoeing, it is highly recommended to portage around them on the right bank. Another obstacle to be aware of is eel weirs that act as strainers to catch eels. These are avoidable by paddling along the side without portaging - but when in doubt, portage. Both put-in and take-out locations are convenient with parking and boat ramp.

A very scenic section of Pine Creek, this is known as the "Grand Canyon" of Pennsylvania. Beginning in Ansonia and going to Blackwell, this ride is very quiet, with only the Pine Creek Trail being along the creek. There is only one notable whitewater Class II section, Owasee Rapid, and is located 3 miles from Ansonia. The rapid can be scouted and portaged on a gravel bar on river left and is also marked by signs upriver.

An exciting and risky Class V waterfall are the end of this short stretch of Hinckston Run. Leaving the southern portion of the reservoir, the run flows through 100 yards of Class 1 before plummeting off the falls. Hinckston Falls is about 60 feet tall and lands into a deep pool that may have all sorts of debris. The clean line is down the left between the left wall and shelves on the right. The falls slopes down for the first half and then free-falls another 30 feet into the pool. The Hinckston Falls stretch is the only paddling stretch along Hinckston Run and very few people have run this falls. Use caution, as there have been a few major impacts hitting the pool at the bottom.
