This trail is relatively flat with occasional hills and is largely undeveloped. You will feel miles away from civilization in this rustic site a midst rolling hills in western Monmouth County. This is one of the most beautiful parks in the county system and is known for its red and white oak, beech, ash and birch trees.

This scenic trail travels along the shoreline of the Hudson River connecting multiple parks and beaches along the way. The first part of the ride on the southern end from Hook Mountain State Park is closer to the river and fairly flat but the second half of the ride covers some hillier terrain with uneven and narrow trail. The trail consists of asphalt, crushed stone, and dirt surfaces. Beginner riders may need to turn back if the trail becomes too difficult for their skill level.

This section of the Barnegat Branch Trail covers the completed section on the southern end that runs between Barnegat and Oyster Creek. The trail is cinder along this portion and is very flat. There is a nice parking area at the trailhead and lots of other access points along the way. The trail passes through wooded terrain that provides wilderness scenery in a suburban area. The trail is still under construction and will eventually connect to the other portions of the trail that are completed further north for a total of over 15 miles when completed.

All trails are marked by a symbol designating is accessibility and the skill level needed for completing the trail. Hartshorne is one of the most popular and heavily trafficked mountain biking areas in New Jersey as a result weekends can be very crowded. They also have group cabins available for camping.

South Mountain is a technical riders paradise. The mountain is a spiderweb of trails, with many highlights off of the main trails. Logs and rocks scatter the trails as they wind through trees, under a power line, along unique rock formations and to beautiful viewpoints. This route is technical because of the logs, slick roots and rocks through the rolling hills along singletrack and doubletrack.

This ride is rocky at times, but also relatively smooth as well. There are lots of short, steep hills interspersed with flats and is for moderate to expert riders. Kittatinny has no specific trail rating system in terms of mountain biking. Part of your ride is along the Sussex Branch Trail that is a 21 mile long rail-grade that passes directly through the heart of Kittatinny Valley State Park. Note: Hunting is permitted in the hilly region west of Goodale Road and the Sussex Branch trail where there are some rideable trails.

Following mostly dirt roads with a few singletrack trails and paved roads, this ride climbs to High Knob and then makes a loop that follows next to Pecks Pond at the end. The climb to High Knob is an out and back before doing the rest of the loop, but the views from the top are not to be missed. The ride goes through forests and meadows and can be very wet near the pond.

The trails at Gloucester are not marked for difficulty; they are barely even marked at all. You should county on the trek being sandy, with some roots and logs. There are numerous small rolling hills interspersed with flatter sections. The overall ride is intermediate, but vary from recreational to advanced. The trails are not rocky, but can be muddy or a bid sandy in isolated spots. Overall, the trails are fast, fun and interestingly designed.

This trail is smooth hardpack with some roots on a relatively flat surface. The path with few exceptions is suitable for hybrids and even some sturdy road touring bikes. It is a great place to ride on many levels and is a continuous route. It is the closest thing to an epic off road journey that New Jersey has to offer.
