Wailua Nui is considered one of the most scenic canyons is Maui. This route explores the Left Fork section of the canyon, which is more technical but also more beautiful. It is often referred to as the “Three Bears” for a series of 3 cascading waterfalls all landing in the same pool. Expect to get wet and bring full gear.

This is a fun and beautiful canyon to explore. You will be required to set up static ropes at the exit to climb out of the canyon. Be sure to do this before you begin so you are not stranded. There is private property below the exit so do not continue further down the canyon. Another option if you don’t want to climb out is to just descend the short section above the highway.

This non-technical route explores the Haleakala volcano crater. Leave an exit vehicle at the Halemauu trailhead and drive to the top of the volcano. Hike down to the Haleakala volcano to the Bottomless pit, which can be rappelled with technical gear. One of the highlights is the lavatube near the end that was formed by counter flows in the caldera. The exit hike is strenuous so prepare for sun, heat and possible rain.
