As part of the Geneva State Park, this lake sits within a primarily longleaf pine timber forest. Begin your trip upon the lake from the boat ramp located off Forest Lake Road. From here enjoy this 100 acre lake that also provides great fishing. This area also offers great birding opportunities. A daily use fee of $2 is required. Signs are posted around the lake to caution you of Alligators that may be present.

Located north of Key West, this group of small islands is a worthwhile destination for paddlers looking for a challenging all-day trip in the backcountry waters off of Boca Chica Key. Despite the close proximity to Key West, the Lower Harbor Keys are very remote and are a great place to find solitude and view wildlife.The water can be hard to navigate during bad weather and there can also be strong tidal currents so it is important to be aware of the conditions before setting out. Ideally it is best to arrive right after low tide to avoid the strong tidal currents that can arise. Also for safety, paddle with another kayak and be sure to have plenty of water, sunscreen, maps/compass, and other safety equipment that may prove useful.

Located just 15 miles from the busy metropolis of Miami, Bill Baggs Cape State Park offers lots of opportunity for outdoor recreation including miles of well-known scenic shoreline for paddling. The state park offers access to the water on the east side of the park at Beach Access #1 where a trail leads down from the parking lot to the beach. A boat dolly is recommended as the portage is a few hundred feet away. Launching from the park allows paddlers to explore the popular shoreline around the cape including the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse. Mild currents and windy conditions can result in some rough paddling so only make the trip if conditions permit and stay close to the shoreline when paddling.

The Gulf Islands National Seashore is one of the prime places to paddle along the Mississippi Coast and is headquartered in Ocean Springs. Cat Island is the westernmost island and is a perfect playground for paddlers. Its unique T-shape was created by colliding Gulf currents. The beautiful sandy beaches are backed by dense forests of slash pines and live oaks. Bayous and marshes on Cat Island are home to alligators as well as refuge to migratory birds. The scenery is spectacular and there are many places to explore.

Caladesi Island is an undisturbed barrier island located on the gulf coast of Florida that is known for having the most beautiful natural white sand beaches in all of Florida. While the white sand beaches are a sight to see, the island also offers mangrove forest on its eastern shores that offer enjoyable paddling and great wildlife viewing opportunity. The island is only accessible from boat and an access site located on the causeway to Honeymoon Island is a good launching point for exploring the Caladesi Island shoreline. This paddling trip follows the wooded shoreline on the east side of the island where waters are more protected but paddlers can explore the white sand beaches on the gulf side as well but this is more exposed. The difficulty of paddling Caladesi Island varies depending on distance, wind, surf, and tide.

Located 70 nautical miles out from Key West, Dry Tortugas National Park is a very special destination with lots of historic significance and amazing scenery. The 100-square mile park consists of mostly open water spotted with seven small islands. The park is home to the historic Fort Jefferson and lots of blue shallow waters that are home to abundant marine life and birdlife. The national park is only accessible by ferry service which requires a fee per person and kayak. Arrangements for transport must be made well in advance. This paddling route follows the shoreline of Garden Key and Bush Key, staying in mostly shallow waters, providing excellent views of the historic fort, and lots of opportunity to see aquatic life below. Trips out further to some of the other islands should only be attempted by advanced paddlers who have made arrangements for an overnight trip at the park.

The Gulf Islands National Seashore is one of the prime places to paddle along the Mississippi Coast and is headquartered in Ocean Springs. Ship Island is the collective name for two barrier islands, East Ship Island and West Ship Island. Hurricane Camille split the once single island into two separate islands in 1969. Fort Massachusetts is found on the western end and pine, cedar, and live-oak dominate the wooded areas. Evidence of Hurricane Katrina is easily found as well.

Monkey Keys and Molasses Keys are some of the most scenic islands in all of the Florida Keys and paddling to these small islands is a worthwhile trip for experienced paddlers. The first part of the trip out to Little Money Key and Money Key is a short and easy paddle through shallow waters, but the trip out to Molasses Key is a harder trip and should only be attempted by more advanced paddlers.

John Pennekamp State Park offers miles and miles of water trails that explore the area of natural mangrove wilderness. The state park has kayak launch site and marked trails that visitors can use to navigate around the park. The state park also has boat rentals available if needed. There is a visitor center at the park which is a good place to stop and learn more about the habitats and wildlife in the area before setting out. There are a few sections of paddling trail in busier channels with motorboat traffic so be careful and watch out for watercraft when paddling in these areas.

Lake Frank Jackson reservoir is located within the Yellow River watershed on Lightwood Knot Creek. To begin your trip on Lake Frank Jackson, use the boat ramp located on the southeast end of the lake. From here travel explore this 1,037 acre lake before ending back at the same boat ramp. The trip shown here travels along the shoreline to a small view point access area located off State Route 9, from here backtrack to the boat ramp to end this trip. Bring your fishing gear as fishing is a popular activity of the lake. A $4 entrance fee and $4 boat launch fee is required.
