This loop trail is just one of many winter-use trails located in the Wing Mountain Snow Play Area just north of Flagstaff. The area offers miles of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The park is also a popular spot for sledding. There is a fee collected per vehicle to enter the park. Amenities at the park include plowed parking, restrooms, and concessions.

The Flagstaff Nordic Center provides cross-country skiers and snowshoers with a large network of groomed and marked trails that travel through remote and scenic stands of large Ponderosa pine and groves of aspen trees just 15 miles from downtown Flagstaff. There are multiple connecting trails that can be used to explore the area in any direction for any distance. The area does charge a day-use fee to access the trails and also provides ski and snowshoe rentals.

This hike provides great solitude, wildlife, and scenery as it passes through a dense forest of Ponderosa Pine before arriving at a rock outcropping where hikers can enjoy excellent views of Mormon Lake below. The trail starts from a trailhead at Double Spring Campground. The trail is very remote and the rocky overlook is a relaxing place to stop and enjoy the views.

The parking area is undeveloped and not maintained but is still popular due to the close proximity to other winter recreation destinations in the area. This long loop ride starts from the Wing Mountain Snowplay area and follows scenic forest roads to Lava River Cave. After the cave the trail continues north up to Highway 180 and east over to Hart Prairie Road and back down to the trailhead. The entire trail follows smooth forest roads that have minimal elevation gain and are easy to follow making this a nice option for riders of all skill levels. The Lava River Cave is the longest lava tube in all of Arizona and a neat place to explore but is narrow in places and is dark and cool so be prepared with flashlights, food, water, and warm clothing if stopping to explore the cave.

This easy loop trail circles around Wing Mountain, an old volcano located just 9 miles northeast of Flagstaff. The trail provides riders with lots of solitude and great scenery including nice views of the San Francisco peaks. The loop trail travels along forest road that is easy to follow with mild elevation change making it a good choice for riders of all skill levels. There are many connecting trails in the area that can be combined for a longer trip including a trail that leads to Lava River Cave just north of Wing Mountain.
