The St. Croix is a notably pristine large river, and the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act protects more than 250 miles of its watershed. Eagles nest on the river’s shoreline, otters romp on the banks, and rare mussels inhabit the riffles. This trail traverses through deep woods and along the crest of the bluff with views of the river below. Fern gardens, springs, and small brooks, grassy meadows, and elegant forests are a treat throughout the hike. This route is great for a long day hike, or backpacking trip.
