Trail Running

Located on the site of a major Civil War battle, the bucolic and idyllically pastoral fields of the Spotsylvania History Trail seem to belie their bloody history. The trail begins by paralleling Grant Drive on its way through the pine forests and open fields that once housed Union and Confederate trenches. When Grant Drive intersects with Anderson Drive, a brief detour will lead hikers to the ruins of the Landrum House, from whence Union forces swept towards the Confederate line. Passing these open meadows onto Bloody Angle Drive, the trail curves along the edge of Gordon Drive and towards the McCoull House Ruins, once the headquarters of the Confederate commanders. Moving south through an open meadow and thickly forested hills, the trail crosses Brock Road and then meets up with Hancock Road/Grant Drive to lead hikers back to the parking area.
