Beginning from the Westmoreland State Park Visitor Center, this loop around the park allows hikers to enjoy the famous "northern neck" peninsula of the Rappahanock and Potomac Rivers. Hugging the beaches on the Big Meadow Trail, the path begins above the Horsehead Cliffs and offers views of the Potomac. Coming to the beach, the trail then moves south into Yellow Swamp and curves around the hilly forests of Big Meadow. Intersecting with the Beaver Dam Trail, aptly named for its views of the beaver dam in the brackish waters below, and the Turkey Neck Trail, named for the turkeys that frequent the area, the trail curves back towards the paved park road. After crossing the road, hikers will come onto the Laurel Pond Trail that snakes its way past Rock Spring Pond and back towards the beach and the parking area.
