This lengthy loop hike through Lake Anna State Park offers both scenic views and vestiges of old Virginia history. As the trail departs from the parking area on the Mill Pond Trail, it passes by "Mary's Mill Site," reminiscent of Lake Anna's once productive mills and manufacturing. Veering left on the Pidgeon Run Trail, a long loop to the north follows the Gold Hill Trail, named for this region's once lucrative gold and pyrite mines (before the California Gold Rush). After hiking the Gold Hill Loop, the trail again rejoins the Pidgeon Hill, and later the Sawtooth Trail on its way south towards the lake. Passing the parking area, it continues along the Glenora Trail, the Big Woods Trail, and the Cedar Run Trail, hugging the edge of the water before returning to the parking area once again.
