This State Heritage Area is a product of early settlers quest for gold. The park's centerpiece is the Sumpter Valley Dredge, a 5-story vessel used to plow up meadows and pastures resulting in $4.5 million in gold, and is one of the nation's oldest surviving gold-digging dredge. This loop trail takes you throughout the park through wetlands, along ponds, and to view how nature is healing the land where the dredge worked.
