In the Malheur National Forest near Prairie City lies Magone Lake, a secluded lake that is known for its crayfish. In the 1800s, a landslide formed Magone Lake and legend is told that a Major Magone stocked the lake by carrying two buckets of brook trout to the scenic location. Wildlife can be seen often including deer, muskrat, beaver, and various types of birds and ducks.
