In northeastern Oregon near the small city of Jordan Valley, Antelope Reservoir is a quiet lake formed by a dam across Jack Creek. The reservoir is better for solitude or birdwatching than for fishing, as there are very high levels of methylmercury which make fish caught from the lake dangerous to eat. The contamination stems from past mining activity where mercury was used to separate gold and silver from other materials.
