The Great Miami River was once a free-flowing river and its main purpose was to provide transportation in the early 1900s. It was named after a tribe of Native Americans who built towns that turned into cities. Now it is one of the most heavily industrialized areas in the nation. There is still scenic and quiet paddling to be found. Beginning at OH 571 bridge this section of river flows River's downton Dayton. There is a dam in Taylorsville in Vandalia that needs to bee portaged on river right.
