This loop trail travels through the Sand Lakes Quiet Area, a serene and remote part of the Pere Marquette State Forest that is off-limits to motorized vehicles. A good portion of the hike follows the shoreline of Marl Lake and a river that travels through heavily forested area. The area is a great place for wildlife viewing and enjoying pristine nature. The trail has very little elevation change and can be shortened by using other trails that can be used as shortcut making the hike a good option for hikers of all skill levels.
