This section of the Illinois Prairie Path starts near the banks of the Fox River south of downtown Elgin and travels many miles through neighborhoods and open areas to its convergence with the other branches of the trail in Wheaton. The trail passes by multiple parks and preserves that offer nice resting spots and additional side trails for exploration. The trail is paved and crushed stone surface, fairly flat, and well-marked making it easy to follow and a good choice for riders of all skill levels. The ride can be continued for many more miles by following one of the other two branches of the trail or other connecting trail systems in the area.
