The hike starts off of Highway 6 and reaches a ridge above White Pine Campground. This is a dry ridge-top route with a variety of timber, and some recent logging. There is an old lookout site at the Butte, and it offers views of the surrounding Hoodoo Mountains. Hiking during the summer months is best, and winter cross-country skiing can usually be done when in season. The trail traces through the Northern Idaho hills and low relief mountains, Intersects Road 1443, and then ends at Dennis Mountain Road near the North-South Ski Bowl.
