The hike starts at the lower trailhead located off of Middle Fork Road, and it follows along the Black Warrior Creek. Expect plenty of wildlife as you hike through Douglas fir, pondersa pine stands, and subalpine fir. Use caution crossing the creek, especially during spring runoff. Wildflowers bloom in the spring, and fall colors are beautiful here. If you plan on camping, contact a local Forest Service facility for a wilderness permit.
