The scenic and rugged terrain of Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve provides excellent birdwatching and wildlife viewing opportunity in an area of diverse coastal habitats. The area consists of salt marsh, hardwood forest, swamps, pine flatwoods and scrub. A network of hiking trails explore the area and provide hikers of all skill level a variety of hiking options. This hike follows a set of trails and dirt roads that can be accessed from a parking area off of Co Road 347. There is also a connecting trail that can be used to access additional trails located in the eastern portion of the reserve.
