The Yampa River is the longest free-flowing tributary in the Colorado River Basin. It flows fast and strong from snowmelt early in the spring. This section begins above Steamboat Springs and wanders into town. The river banks are lined with willows and lots of wildlife and birds to see. You'll be passing by private property so be respectful. Once you reach downtown you will enjoy the boulders (man placed) that create a fun playground for paddling.
