The Spanish Route is a remote and scenic trail that climbs high into the Sierra National Forest to the boundary with John Muir Wilderness. At the end of the trail there are hiking trails that lead to the Little Spanish and Spanish lakes. The trail is rated as moderate-to-difficult due to steep, narrow, and rocky terrain with possible downed trees and tree roots. The route may be passable for some stock SUVs but higher-clearance modified vehicles are recommended to avoid body damage.
