This whitewater paddle follows the South Fork of the Yuba River as it carves away at the granite cliffs and pine forested canyon walls between Washington and Edwards Crossing. This run includes a combination of Class III and IV rapids for the majority of the run and finishes with a Class V rapid before taking out. At mile ten is a gorge with a 12 foot waterfall descending down below that should be portaged. The portage is on the left. Pay close attention in this area, the Class II rapids just before the falls can be deceiving. The flows of the river are unpredictable. The best times to go is just after spring runoff, a heavy rainfall, or after the dam has been released which is inconsistent.
