Highway 108 to Sonora Pass is the steepest graded highway route in the Sierra Nevada's and the second highest pass. Needless to say, this ride is a challenge. It begins at an elevation of 5,765 feet and within 14.5 miles climbs along the windy highway to Sonora Pass at 9,624 feet. The scenery hopefully serves as a good distraction for this endurance tester. The ride passes through open meadows and past granite outcrops with additional views of surrounding peaks. Be cautious of cars, there are no shoulders to ride in on this road. Water and restroom facilities are available at the following: Eureka Valley Campground (mile 3) and Baker Campground (mile 5.8).
