From Pinole to Martinez, this ride follows the coastline and meanders along quiet tree lined roads and bare yet vibrant green hillsides in spring and winter. It passes through businesses and neighborhood communities of Pinole and Martinez where you will find most of the traffic, especially along Lincoln Highway. There is little traffic everywhere else. The ride has a single challenging climb with rolling hills to warm up on. Road conditions are good with the exception of a section where the quarry is along the Carquinez Scenic Road; watch out for loose gravel. A patch kit might be a good idea to bring along just in case. Also, this road is closed to vehicles, but open to cyclists. Bypass the gate and enjoy the solitude.
