This section of the Lower Kern River winds through a scenic canyon from Sandy Flat Campground to Democrat Beach. These are both excellent easily accessible put in/take out sites along a large stretch of beach. You'll even find some additional beaches on this route you can pull up to and break at. There are a series of rapids that range from Class III to Class V+. The Class V+ rapid, Royal Flush, lies beyond Hobo Campground and requires a portage. Start paying close attention at mile 1.5 for warning signs beyond Hobo Campground. The portage is on the right. This requires a river permit.
