Alta Trail is a strenuous yet rewarding hike to Alta Peak where the views are the most rewarding for day hikes in the area. The trail gradually ascends and meanders beside a large open meadow before turning onto Alta Trail. It travels under a canopy of pines and firs as it steadily climbs the mountain side. At 3.8 miles the trail travels through a section where there are excellent open views of the High Sierras. It continues to climb in and out of the trees and onto more exposed rocky terrain.
