This reservoir provides paddlers plenty of shoreline for exploring, great opportunity for birdwatching, and a chance to learn about the history of the area. The dam was one of the first constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There are interpretive trails and a museum located near the dam that provide historical information. Sections of the reservoir are located in the Pathfinder National Wildlife Refuge with lots of opportunity for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. Fishing and boating are very popular activities at the lake. There are three different boat ramps located on the lake so paddlers can choose what areas to visit. Bishop's Point Open water crossings may be necessary when exploring the lake, so paying attention to other boaters as well as current weather and water conditions is very important.
