This 74-mile trail is on a former rail corridor and is one of the longest rail trails in the state, running from the Wild Rivers State Trail just north of Rice Lake to Park Falls. This route covers the entire length of the trail although there are several easy accesses along the way to shorten your trip. The trail surface is crushed stone with some connecting pavement sections. The terrain is basically flat except for steep slopes down to stream bridges. The flat rail-bed portions are easy riding while the steep slopes on the sides of stream crossings are challenging due to grade and loose surface. The scenery consists of deep hardwood and pine forest with many stream crossings. This is the only railroad trail around and allows you to plunge deep into the wild forest environment.
