Climbing Routes

The masterful Smith Rock State Park is a worldly known rock climbing area located off Crooked River Drive near the town of Terrebonne. These marvelous crags are situated in an elevated desert region of Central Oregon, as the Cascades to the west effectively create a rain shadow. The rock material here is mostly volcanic and red tuff, along with basalt. The Morning Glory Wall is a massive 350 foot high, south facing monolith that gets plenty of sunlight. A lot of the more difficult routes ascend the right base of the wall, while the middle section includes several multi-pitch lines. Temperatures can get pretty toasty during the summer months, and it can also get below freezing during the winter months. Be sure to bring some cash for a $3 dollar parking permit, or you can purchase an annual pass for $25. There's also a roadside campground just before you get to the main parking area.
