Named as an Oregon Scenic Bikeway, McKenzie Hwy is only open to traffic summer - fall, but accessible for bikes in late spring. The road is an 1860's wagon route with gorgeous views circling around Mt. Washington, and of the Three Sisters and Broken Top. The pass is made up of section of ancient lava flow, with an observation stop at the top of the ride made out of lava with panoramic views of the mountains. The route also goes by beautiful mountain lakes and through dense forests, providing a vast difference of scenery along the ride. The ride can be started on either end.
