These marvelous crags are situated in an elevated desert region of Central Oregon at Smith Rock State Park. The rock material here is mostly volcanic and red tuff, along with basalt. East Ship is located across the footbridge and left about 50 yards from of the massive Picnic Lunch Wall. The River Face has a sport route that leads up a prominent arete. Temperatures can get pretty toasty during the summer months, and it can also get below freezing during the winter months. Be sure to bring some cash for a $3 dollar parking permit, or you can purchase an annual pass for $25. There's also a roadside campground just before you get to the main parking area.
