Considered one of the best hikes in OK, this summit is the highest point in Oklahoma at 4,973 feet. The trail is relatively flat up to the base of the mesa. A 600 foot switchback ascent follows, the end of which is marked by a barbed-wire fence and overhead wire. The summit is marked by a granite obelisk, from which New Mexico (to the west) and Colorado (to the north) can be seen. During hot weather prepare for very little shade and the occasional severe afternoon thunderstorm with lightning. Rattlesnakes and Copperhead snakes are active in the area mid-spring through early fall.
