The Hennepin Canal Trail is the longest snowmobile trail in the whole state of Illinois and offers 91 miles of towpath for snowmobiles to explore. This ride follows the section between Colona and Bureau Junction. The trail is open for snowmobiling when there is at least 4 inches of snow base and 6 inches of frost in the ground. The trail status can be obtained by calling the visitor center at 815-454-2328 for a recorded message and the trail status will also be posted on Facebook. The trail is mostly flat with only small changes in elevation and no major hazards or avalanche risk.
