The route starts off of Highway 12 at the Eagle Mountain Pack Bridge. At first, the hike follows through cool cedar groves for the first few miles. After that, it is mostly rocky, rugged, high ridge terrain as it follows along the border of the Clearwater National Forest. While in the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, the trail encompasses numerous streams, lakes, meadows, and allows access to many other trails. It eventually ends near Remount at Cool Water Ridge Road 317. The route can be used as a one way trail or as an out and back. A wilderness permit can be obtained from a Forest Service facility or a registration box.
