The Niantic River is a tidal river that offers a nice paddling experience. Oil Mill Brook and Stony Brook are two sources of water for the Niantic and the Niantic itself empties into the Long Island Sound. Be apprised that there is a large difference between high tide in the river and low tide; at low tide the water goes below sea level.
