This section of the Green River flows through a deep and remote canyon and offers the best whitewater of the river. It is best done as a multi-day trip. A permit is required and available at the Canyon of Lodore Ranger Station. Beginning in the Canyon of Lodore you will paddle through almost continuous rapids. The popular and named rapids are Disaster Falls, Triplet Falls and Hell’s Half Mile. The current runs into a large boulder at Triplet so being pinned is a possibility. Hell’s Half Mile is wild and should be scouted especially during high water. When you reach the confluence of the Yampa the river gets larger and flows faster. Jones Hole is located about halfway and offers good camping with some petroglyphs to see. From here to the takeout at Split Mountain the river is slow moving and much more relaxing.
