Mountaineering

Towering at an elevation of 14,162 feet, Mount Shasta is one of the largest stratovolcanoes in the world and the fifth highest peak in California. Mount Shasta receives significant amounts of snowfall each winter and has seven named glaciers: Wintun, Hotlum, Bolam, and Whitney. This route climbs the northeastern slope while following Hotlum-Wintin Ridge and Wintun Glacier to the summit. This trip is best done as a multi-day with an early wake up and early descent. By afternoon snow conditions turn to mash potatoes. Difficulty Rating: IV S3-
